COMMUNITY EVENTS

COVID-19 Update:

Dear Friends of MCYU,

You may have heard that McMaster University has cancelled all classes for the rest of the academic term and has urged the cancellation of non-essential events. In keeping with this policy, MCYU will be cancelling its on-campus lectures for April and May. We are in the process of adapting the March, April and May lectures for online. To support families with their at home learning we are developing virtual challenges and activities that children and youth can do at home. We’ve also put together a list of online resources for parents. You can find this info in our Kid Zone here.

We would like to also inform you that all MCYU in the City workshops, in schools and libraries, have been cancelled in order to better manage the Covid-19 outbreak. We recognize that many of you look forward to these events and apologize for this necessary action, but we must remember that public safety is our primary concern. We look forward to seeing all our friends soon.

Please take extra precautions to wash your hands and stay safe.

1200 Main Street West, Ewart Angus Centre, Room 1A1, Hamilton, ON L8N 3Z5

    Lecture Description:

RUMOURS, CONSPIRACIES & LIES! OH MY! HOW TO SEPARATE FACT FROM FICTION – Sometimes we hear rumours or stories about secret agents scheming to control some of history’s big events or trying to trick us into believing science that isn’t true. These stories can be a lot of fun! Yet sometimes these “conspiracy theories” can confuse us and cause problems of their own. Join us as we discover the kind of tools investigators use to spot fake news, debunk pseudo-science, and separate fact from fiction.

Let’s Talk Science will run hands-on activities after the lecture from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

    Ages: 7-14 (whole family welcome)

    Cost: FREE
